My January Blog Review

January is now over and it’s time to look at what this blog has achieved in its first month. Technically, it’s not this blogs first month, I’ve about a month’s worth of posts from September through to December, but then this blog was hacked into for the first time and I lost the posts online and then my computer’s hard drive failed which wiped out any offline copies of the posts I had.

I’ve broken the stats up into three parts – visitors, content, and miscellaneous stuff. It’s been a good month but I hope and want this blog to do even better in February.

Visitors

In January, this blog received 303 visitors and 220 absolute unique visitors. This resulted in 527 pageviews. Not bad for my first serious month of blogging. However, I need that figure to grow if I’m to accomplish my goals for 2008.

The top 3 referrers for January were entrecard.com, sitehoppin.com and marklloyd.org. I’m pretty happy with this, though I’d like to receive more traffic from search engines. I need to work on my keyword targeting and perhaps install the All in One SEO Pack.

Content

I think that I’ve produced some good content in January. I’ve now set a posting frequency of every 3 days, and am very keen to stick to it. It’s easy to manage so I hope to keep it up.

The top posts in January were “My Online Goals for 2008”, “What Should I Write About” and “An Entrecard Redesign for Free”. I’m pretty pleased with this as it means people are clinking through to posts and not just visiting my homepage. However, my about page got a lot of visits which suggests that I’m getting a lot of first time visitors. At least they want to know more about me.

Furthermore, I’m getting a lot of comments which is nice to see. It shows that people are actually reading what I write. :)

Misscellaneous

This blog has 54 backlinks which is definitely not a lot, and something I hope to improve by networking with other blogs. I’m going to start posting useful comments on other blogs and perhaps, start a few link exchanges.

I like to use websitegrader.com as a gauge as to how my site is doing. I’ve currently got a website grade of 55/100. Which I’m happy with, but which I’m going to improve upon.

I’ve got a Technorati rank of 1,644,723 which is fine, but I’d like to have a 6-figure rank by sometime this year. Technorati is an important directory for bloggers, and many use it as a method of showing how popular their blog is. To get in the top 100 in Technorati is a dream for many bloggers.

Lastly, I’ve got an Alexa rank of 1,909,600.

That’s it for January. It’s been an interesting month. I’ve found a posting frequency which works for me and my blog is beginning to receive a good amount of traffic which is very encouraging. I’m going to keep working hard on this blog, and I hope that I’ll have an even better report for everyone to read in February.
