Learning about SEO and doing a little programming

Web development

I’ve been quite busy over the last few weeks with a number of projects. Lately, I’ve got into a good work schedule, and have managed to learn an awful lot of stuff. [ad#content2]

I’ve been working on a car dealership application, and it’s coming along nicely. It’s built upon CakePHP which is an amazing framework, and has really made coding the site easy. I’ve fooled around with Ruby on Rails in the past, but I’ve seemed to just gel with CakePHP, so I don’t think I’ll be changing back to Rails.

The guys in CakePHP’s IRC chat must be getting annoyed with all of my questions, but I’m getting better, I’m not asking just as much as I used to.

The project was originally going to be a one of custom site, but I’ve decided to develop it into a product (at least that’s the plan for the moment). The competition is pretty tough, but I believe I’ve got an advantage. My dad’s a car salesman, so I know a bit about the industry.

The project is progressing nicely, and I hope to get it finished before the end of August.

SEO

I signed up for Aaron Wall’s SEOBook at the beginning of July, and although I haven’t spent as much time as I would have liked learning SEO, I’ve been learning bits and pieces.

The program is great, and it’s really useful to have all of those resources in one place.

My main aim in learning SEO is to try and find and “own” a niche. I want to develop a few cash cows, because I could do with a little extra money to put into other projects. However, it’s proving pretty difficult, but if it was easy, it’d be no fun. ;)
