An interview with a successful web developer and entrepreneur
Jon, from jonwarass.com, was kind enough to take some time out from his busy schedule to answer a few questions.
Jon’s a 20 year old web developer from Idaho. Upon finishing high school, he got a job at Home Depot and hated it. As a result, he decided to try making money online and so far, it’s been working (just check out his income report from March).
I’ve got a long way to go yet!
- Name one thing which you love most of all about being an internet entrepreneur.
The thing I love the most is not working for anyone but myself. I like to do my work when I want to and not at a certain time of the day.
- Do you ever feel the need to motivate yourself to work hard online, or do you just naturally have that motivation? If so, how do you find the motivation and inspiration you need?
Oh yeah. Especially when you make good money, I find it hard to keep motivated. Some ways I motivate myself is give myself incentives to work hard. So say if I finish all my weekly goals I can go to the club/bar on Thursday night. That works great. I also set goals for myself with incentives, so say if I make $15,000 3 months in a row I’ll buy myself a wakeboarding boat for this summer. That is my current goal
- What one skill do you think has been of most benefit to you in your web development career? (E.g. graphic design or…)
CSS coding/integrating designs with scripts
- Do you think that SEO will always be an important part of the web development process, or do you think that Google could change that?
Yep. If Google still caches websites to search them, then there will always be ways to optimize your websites SEO to rank better. I do feel, however, that Google will make harder and harder over time to spam there system. Down the road I think that spamming Google will take too much resources to make it worth it, I feel that quality content is better in the long run
- If you were to choose just one way in which a website could improve its search engine rankings, what would it be?
Title Tag
- What methods and tools do you use to evaluate a website?
Google.com. I don’t use any tools at all.
- If you could own anyone website on the internet today, what would it be?
That’s a really tough question, IRS.com probably.
- Are you ever going to diversify your income streams by buying or starting an ‘offline’ business?
Yep, looking into some offline business currently.
- If you could go back in time, is there anything you would do differently online?
I would be buying all the domains I could be back in the day.
- When are you at your most productive? (E.g. after a good workout, early in the morning…)
I have tried and tried, but I just can’t work during the day. I like to work at night, from about 12-6.
Information and advice from other people in your industry is invaluable. Especially, if like Jon, they’re successful people. For example from Jon’s interview, I’ve already came up with a few new ideas to make money online.
