It’s time to get back to work

Posted on August 14th, 2008.

After taking a very long break from blogging, I’ve decided to get back to it. However, I’m going to shake things up a bit.

Every time I updated my blog it was getting harder and harder to write good posts, and the reason was fairly simple. I had no true interest in the topics I was writing about, and as I had no real interest, I had to go and do a pile of research before starting to write. As a result, my articles were never really that good. To write on any topic well, I believe that you need to immerse yourself in that topic.

One more problem I’m going to address was made clear to me by a post on Copyblogger. Jonathan Morrow wrote that your “role as a blogger isn’t to educate the world.” Unfortunately, I’ve tried to be a teacher, and it really hasn’t worked. That’s why I’ve decided to change the things I write about.

I’m going to tell you more about what I’m doing. What tools I’m playing with, what I’m learning about, what I’m reading about and other things like that. That’s what I should’ve been blogging about, and I guess that’s the purpose of this blog. I’m supposed to be charting my journey to financial freedom.

So, the next update will hopefully be a little bit more interesting.

great point about not needing to be a teacher. I use the same method of you as thinking of blog posts - write what you’ve learnt from what you’re working on now.
