June blog review
It’s that time again and in general, June has been a pretty dull month. However, I’ve got used to a regular posting frequency, and I’m once more churning out fresh content on a regular basis.
Visitors
June saw quite a downturn in traffic with this blog receiving only 1,284 visitors, and 1,090 absolute unique visitors. Compared to previous months this isn’t what I was aiming for, but then it’s the summer which usually sees a decrease in visitor numbers.
For a change this month the greatest amount of traffic came from direct visitors. It’s obvious that the fewer number of visitors coming from referring sites has had a negative impact on traffic as a whole, and so I’d like to grow the number of people coming from referring sites in July.
The top three referring sites in June were powerdropping.com, entrecard.com, and namepros.com.
Although traffic was down, the number of visitors coming from search engines increased from 32 visitors in May to 40. It’s great to see organic traffic on the up, because it really can increase the traffic coming to your website.
Content
I did only start posting again near the middle of June, and so I didn’t produce that many posts, but it’s good to be back.
I started a short series on choosing colors for your website, and I’m going to continue with that series into July. I plan on showing some examples of good color use on the web. I’d like to shift from just theory, to theory with examples.
This site garnered 1,666 pageviews in June which isn’t bad considering the drop in traffic. Essentially, more pages were viewed per head than in May. The top three posts for June were my May blog review, my post on programming fonts, and my post on the best free backlink checkers.
My post on backlink checkers is getting good search engine traffic, which is fantastic for the development of this blog. If I continue to build up content, I hope to see an improvement in traffic thanks to pages like that which attract visitors slowly, but surely.
Miscellaneous
For the first month since I began doing these blog reviews the number of backlinks to my site has decreased which is really disappointing. It’s down from 979 to 711 according to iWebTool’s backlink checker.
Unfortunately, my website grade has also gone down from 81 to 77. It’s clear that my lapse in providing fresh content, and the downtime this blog experienced has had a negative effect on exposure in general.
My Alexa rank increased further this month to 240,226. This was of course due to the downturn in traffic. However, my Technorati rank has decreased greatly, and I’m now in the top 500,000 with a Technorati rank of 460,360.
Blog improvements
My main improvement in June was to get some fresh content online, and I’ve done that. Bar that, I haven’t done much at all.
Plans for July
My main plan for July is to get everything truly back on track. That is to promote this blog more, and to keep providing good content.
I’d also like to get into a better blogging routine as I want to start to prepare my blog content further in advance, so that I can create great content, not just good content.
I want to make this blog bigger and better! And to do that I have to keep putting in the hard work. However, if I’m honest there really is more I could be doing, and with the little bit of extra time I’ve got, putting in some more effort shouldn’t be a problem.
