March blog review

Posted on April 2nd, 2008.

It’s that time of the month yet again, and what a month it has been. In my February blog review I stated, “I hope that March is going to be even better,” and that’s exactly what March has been. This blog experienced a great increase in traffic. It may be slow, but aaronfalloon.com is growing day by day.

Visitors

The number of visitors in March was almost double the number in February, with this blog receiving 2,009 visitors, and 1,681 absolute unique visitors.

As in February, the highest percentage of traffic came from referring sites. However, the actual percentage (50.22%) is actually quite low compared to February’s (69.51%). The top three referring sites in March were powerdropping.com, entrecard.com, and sitehoppin.com. Traffic from EntreCard may not be the best, but it does lead to a few recurring visitors.

There was a nice increase in the number of visitors from search engines, with Google providing me with 31 visitors. I’d like to see this improve even more, and it will do so. I just need to concentrate on writing good, quality content.

Content

I made a total of 12 posts in March. I posted a total of 14 times in February, and to post less in a longer month is disappointing. I didn’t continue my series of posts on inspirational and motivational quotes, which would explain the lower number of posts.

I managed to stick to my posting frequency again, and so, I don’t think I’ll be changing it anytime soon.

This blog received 2,471 pageviews in March which is a nice increase, but not relative to the increase in visitors. In February, on average, more people spent longer on the site looking at pages. Again, there was a very high bounce rate of 90.99% which is something I’m going to have to work on.

The 3 most popular posts were my posts on content generators, planning an article and making articles scannable. The CTR to individual posts is in need of improvement, and is something else which I hope to work on.

Miscellaneous

I’m always looking to increase the number of backlinks to this site and again, this has been done. This site has now got 557 backlinks which is a significant increase from February’s figure of 165.

As always, I checked the website grade of this blog, and there’s been a nice increase from 76/100 to 85/100.

There was a massive decrease in my Alexa ranking in March, from 981,904 to 346,306. However, my Technorati rank stayed the same.

Blog improvements

I’ve decided to add two new sections to my end-of-month blog reviews. I want to discuss the improvements made to the blog and what I hope to achieve in the next month.

I really didn’t do much to this blog in March, especially at the beginning of the month. However near the end, I kicked into a very slow gear.

Now at the bottom of every post, there’s a link which invites you to receive my RSS feed via e-mail. It’s not a huge improvement, but I hope that it’ll increase the number of RSS subscribers that I have. It’s now much more convenient to subscribe to my feed, so I hope more people will do it!

Of course, I also updated to Wordpress 2.5, and I love it.

I also added a related posts plugin, which you can see by looking at the bottom of an individual post. It’s not working at the moment as I haven’t started to use tags. However, I hope to address this issue in April (it’s part of my plan to improve the structure and organisation of this blog).

Plans for April

In April, I hope to significantly improve the quality of this blog.

I’m going to post about my plans in more detail soon, but essentially, I want to improve the structure and organisation of this blog and in doing so, improve the quality of the content.

As always, I want this blog to grow even further in April. I have a lot of improvements in mind, and hope to see significant growth. Every post that I write and publish is improving the quality of my writing and as a result, the quality of the information that I bring to you.
