TIME magazine: How Not to Get Sick

I thought this was an interesting feature. I know I definitely need to get back into the swing of regular exercise and a healthy diet.

My research is gathering pace

I’ve yet to receive actual feedback on “The used car sales process” but yhurg on cardealerforums.com has pointed me to two other sites where I can hopefully get feedback on my simple write-up.

tfm: Researching the data model

I’m still researching the data model for my dads site and have put together a document which gives me a better idea of the used car sales process. Hopefully, I can use this document to help me design an appropriate data model.

As I’m no expert on dealing cars, I’ve posted it on cardealerforums.com in a bid to get some industry experts to chip in on how the process works.

Proverbs

I find proverbs incredibly interesting and Chinese proverbs seem to be very insightful. Here’s a few of my favourite…

  • If you don’t want anyone to know, don’t do it.
  • Do not fear going forward slowly; fear only to stand still.
  • Be the first to the field and the last to the couch.
  • The faintest ink is more powerful than the strongest memory.

UML modelling tools

As I’ve stated, I’m currently working on a database model for a car dealer. Part of the modelling process involves putting together use cases and building UML diagrams and for that, I’m going to use ArgoUML.

tfm: designing the data model

The first stage in developing this project is describing the data model. However, I’m not going to jump into doing that without doing some solid research.

Clare Churcher’s book, Beginning Database Design, is going to be the first piece I devour on data modelling. I’m then going to search the internet for articles related to the field and hopefully after a few days, I’ll have a much better understanding of data models and how to implement them in a relational database.

The magic

I posted earlier on where I’ll be making the magic happen over the next 12 days but I didn’t really explain what the magic will be.

My plan for the next 12 days is to build a new and much better website for Trevor Falloon Motors.

I’m fortunate that this is a project for my dad’s business because I’ve got a certain amount of creative freedom as a result. I can take this project in any direction I want and it’s going to go live. It’s my chance to show off.

The code name for this project is tfm.

Where the magic will happen

I built a website for my dad not too long ago. It’s been running for a while and I’ve started to notice some of its limitations. The next incarnation of Trevor Falloon Motors is going to be a step up. I want it to be something else and I’m going to build it in just 12 days.

Below is a photo of where I’ll be working on the site and yes, it is my dining room. The massive table you see below comes in very handy.

Found some Spanish exercises

After complaining about the lack of good Spanish exercises, I stumbled across some on StudySpanish.com.

Designing database models

Last night I was looking for a tool to help me piece together a database model. I’ve tried MySQL Workbench before but it’s a little too heavy and complicated. All I need is to be able to visualise what my data model looks like and how tables relate to each other.

I found a nice simple tool which lets me do just that. It’s called WWW SQL Designer.
