Preparing for those rainy days
There’ll be a time when you’re unable to update your blog, or write content. I’ve been sick for the last few days, and as a result, I’ve lacked motivation and the drive to write. When you don’t feel like writing or don’t have the time, how do you ensure that your site has fresh content?
Writing content can be very time consuming and as a result, it’s usually the first thing people cut from their schedule. However, it’s definitely not the smartest thing to do. You’ve probably spent months creating good content, and you’ve updated regularly and so, people have come to your site. Visitors like sites which are updated frequently and so by not updating, you’re harming your website’s reputation.
There are a few methods which can help you keep your site updated when you can’t, or don’t want to update it yourself.
1. When you do have the time, write an extra article on top of the article you’re about to post. Save it as a draft and keep it for a rainy day. Build up a bank of 5 or 6 back-up articles, so that when you don’t have the time to post, you’ve got something which is ready to go.
2. You could also hire a writer for a day or two to knock together a few posts for your blog. You could perhaps use him/her to create your back-up articles. To find writers, try the digitalpoint forums or sitepoint.com. Content writers can be expensive, but if you find a good one, he/she could be priceless.
3. You could also use article directories (e.g. Ezine Articles) to find articles related to your blog, and post them. The articles are free and usually of a good quality. However, you have to post a linkback to the creator. Nonetheless, having something to post is better than nothing.
4. The last option I recommend is PLR content. PLR content is content which you can use in any way you want, and it requires no linkbacks. However, this can be an expensive option as well.
There are many ways to keep your blog (or website) updated when you don’t have the time or when life gets in the way. Sure, some might be expensive but, I value my readership more highly than the $10 it would take to hire a writer to write a blog post. Remember, you want to update regularly, so don’t let anything stop you!

I wouldn’t advise anyone to use free articles from the web. If you cannot write something that day, then just don’t write. I also have some off days and it’s pretty OK.
Still, I have another trick to be able to write daily (or mostly daily) .. as you mentioned already: keep drafts. I usually just write the title of the article and save it there. I know what I wanted to write about so I can pick the topic any time and make an article from it
