Website flipping (part 1)
As I mentioned in my previous post, I want to have a go at website flipping. I’ve thought about what I’m good at, and that’s content creation and management. I’m now looking for a site to develop, but do I really need to buy a site?
Based on my previous post, I should now be looking for a site with a good design, but bad content. However content is usually the main part of a website, and so you’ll rarely find a site without good content.
That’s why I’ve decided to develop my own mini-sites.
A mini-site consists of a number of pages of information on a niche topic. It’s important to choose a niche where there’s little competition, as you want to be able to compete well against other sites. My site is in a small niche, with little competition (Wikipedia being my biggest). With good content and promotion, I think it can rank high in the search engines.
I’ve already designed a template, have chosen a niche, and bought a domain name for my site. I’m not going to release the domain name just yet, but I might soon.
I now have to start gathering together content to put on the site. All of the written content is going to be my own work. I also want it to be high quality, so it’s going to be properly planned and researched.
Clearly, writing the content is the most pressing issue, but I’ve also got other things which I have to do.
One of the most important is finding ways to promote the site once it’s finished. I’ve decided that the main method is probably going to be forums signatures on forums related to my site’s niche.
Content creation is usually one of the hardest parts of developing a website. I know that I find it tough, because it really does take time and hard work. However it’s probably the most important part of any website, so I hope I get it right. ![]()
